At AAUW Sarasota, we believe in the extraordinary power of community and the simple truth that when women and girls are supported, everyone benefits. AAUW Sarasota champions equity through education, leadership development, and advocacy. We believe that every girl deserves access to role models who reflect her potential, and every woman deserves the tools and confidence to pursue her goals. From scholarships and skills training to community partnerships, we create pathways that help turn dreams into achievements.
But our mission extends beyond individual success. True equity means transforming the systems and mindsets that hold women and girls back. AAUW Sarasota is celebrating our nation’s Semiquincentennial birthday. Come join our celebration when we have Sheryl Faye, in her one woman show, present Abigail Adams.

Don’t miss this year’s unforgettable fundraiser featuring Sheryl Faye in her renowned one-woman show. Through the inspiring story of Abigail Adams, the First Lady who boldly reminded our Founding Fathers to “remember the ladies”, you’ll experience history, courage, and the roots of the women’s rights movement brought to life on stage.

In a letter dated March 31, 1776, Abigail Adams wrote to her husband, John Adams, urging him and the other members of the Continental Congress not to forget about the nation’s women when fighting for independence from Great Britain. She was fighting for women’s rights at the time women were the property of their husbands.

This isn’t just a performance. It’s a chance to gather, celebrate, and fuel progress. Every ticket purchased directly supports programs that advance equity for women and girls, creating brighter futures, stronger voices, and endless opportunities.

Though we are nonpartisan, AAUW Sarasota is not values-neutral. We fight to remove the barriers and biases that stand in the way of gender equity. We train women to negotiate for pay and benefits and to pursue leadership roles. And we advocate for federal, state and local laws and policies to ensure equity and end discrimination.
