WE'RE MISSION DIRECTED
AAUW Sarasota’s public policy program is directed by our mission – to advance gender equity for women and girls through education, advocacy, and research.
The guiding principles of our Florida public policy program are aligned with AAUW National’s Public Policies, established every two years by an every-member vote.
Establishing and publishing policy priorities is crucial for ensuring that our goals are effectively met. We share our priorities with all to ensure alignment and understanding of what AAUW objectives are and work toward achieving them. By aligning our efforts we foster collaboration between branches. The most recent version of the Public Policy Priorities identifies these Biennial Action Priorities:
- Support a strong system of public education that promotes gender fairness, equity, diversity and inclusivity, and to address the barriers and implicit biases that hinder the advancement of women and girls.
- Achieve economic security for all women.
- Guarantee equality, individual rights, and social justice for a diverse and inclusive society.
As a nonpartisan organization, AAUW does not endorse specific candidates, but throughout its 140-year history it has been a staunch advocate for policies that improve the lives of girls, women, and their families.
Our Public Policy Priorities underscore the American Association of University Women’s mission to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy. Having goals stated through public policy statements can significantly enhance the likelihood of achieving those goals they are a framework for action and accountability. The guiding principles of our public policy program are aligned with AAUW Florida and AAUW National’s Public Policy Priorities, which are established every two years by a vote of members. If you would like to participate in our efforts to make progress toward these goals, please join us!
Advocacy
At AAUW Sarasota, we encourage our members to become involved in every level of the political process. We actively support legislation representative of AAUW’s Public Policy Priorities. We represent our National priorities to our members, the public, and the media. And we organize members and supporters to take action on our priorities, and we lead voter education and get-out-vote (GOTV) campaigns.
